Meet the Experts

Entomology is the scientific study of insects. Entomologists have identified more than one million different species of insects, which accounts for more than two-thirds of all known organisms on earth. Insects are also some of the planet’s most long-standing inhabitants, as they have been around for about 400 million years.

Jim Fredericks, Ph.D. Jim Fredericks, Ph.D., is the vice president of public affairs for NPMA and is responsible for educating consumers about all facets of pest management and providing a unified voice to protect public health and property from harmful pests. Jim is also NPMA’s chief entomologist and his Ph.D. research involved subterranean termite foraging behavior.
Mike Bentley, Ph.D., specializes in structural pests, which are those that can be found in and around buildings such as ants, cockroaches and, yes, termites. He serves as the director of training and education for NPMA.
